So, a bunch of people have discovered an unknown, slimy, strands-of-hair riddled goop drifting off the coast of Alaska that basically has everyone guessing. It's got everyone confused because oil spill has been ruled out. According to the Anchorage Daily News:Nobody knows for sure what the gunk is, but Petty Officer 1st Class Terry Hasenauer says the Coast Guard is sure what it is not.Yum! I'm ready for gelato! Anyway, not only is this gunk completely unidentifiable and just floating around in the northern seas, people are also finding the remains of dead animals - fish, geese, jellyfish - in the slime. And this stuff isn't just a little bit of slime floatin' around off the coast. It's like a huge trail of it drifting through the ocean. Check out the video of it after the jump...
"It's certainly biological," Hasenauer said. "It's definitely not an oil product of any kind. It has no characteristics of an oil, or a hazardous substance, for that matter.
"It's definitely, by the smell and the makeup of it, it's some sort of naturally occurring organic or otherwise marine organism."
